The Castor Oil Update: How Our Whipped Body Butter Reformulation Turned Out
We told you we were testing a change to our Whipped Body Butter: a small addition of castor oil. We're back with the results, and they're good.
The Lab Results Are In!
We batched it, tested it ourselves, and the formula turned out fantastic. We love it. The castor oil addition gives the butter a real moisture-sealing quality, it locks hydration in rather than letting it evaporate off the skin, without adding any greasy or heavy feel. That was the whole challenge with a butter this rich, and castor oil solved it.
Why We Chose Castor Oil Specifically
Castor oil is prized in skin care for a few specific reasons, and they're exactly why it earned a place in this formula:
Moisture barrier support. Its main fatty acid, ricinoleic acid, is highly emollient, meaning it helps seal moisture into the skin rather than letting it escape.
A smooth, glossy finish. It leaves skin looking healthy and hydrated, not dull.
Deep conditioning for dry skin. Its thicker, heavier texture makes it especially effective on the kind of rough, dry patches a lighter oil can't fully address.
A long history in skin care. It's been used for generations specifically for its ability to soften and protect skin exposed to harsh, drying conditions, which made it a natural fit for a Texas Hill Country body butter.
What's Next: It's in the Field
Our own lab results were the first step. The formula is now out with outside testers, going through what's called an in-home use test (IHUT), real people using it in their real routines, not just us in our own kitchen. We're hopeful. If the results come back as strong as our own did, this formula gets locked in as final.
We'll let you know the moment we hear back.
